National Download Day takes place on December 28 every year. It's the day that the most Americans download the most mobile apps on the new mobile devices they got for Christmas, from smartphones to tablets. Fort Mason Games is a gaming company that designs mobile games to help players relax and de-​stress. Its overall mission is to revolutionize mobile games and encourage players to embrace connection and collaboration rather than be overly competitive. This year, they also released a survey about mobile games downloaded on National Download Day.

"In this national survey of Americans' download habits, 73% said they will download apps on National Download Day, with 67% planning to download mobile games. Games are some of the most vital apps on our phone, we collectively spend more than one billion hours playing them per month," said Kate Gorman, CEO of Fort Mason Games.

According to AudienceSCAN on AdMall by SalesFuel, 49.9% of Smartphone App Purchasers also own video game consoles. Additionally, within the past year, 60.6% used an internet-​connected device to play online games. Along with games, this audience is also using their mobile devices to watch online or streamed videos and search for nearby retailers. They are also 146% more likely than other adults to find advertising on their mobile apps useful and 91% more likely to find social media advertisements helpful. This audience is active on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Twitter.

Fort Mason Games' survey also found out that 87% of smartphone owners download a minimum of three apps on an annual basis. However, the majority of these downloads happen primarily between Christmas an New Years Day every year. Out of the mobile apps downloaded during this time, mobile games are the most popular type of app downloaded. Approximately 70% of smartphone owners plan to download mobile games. Other popular mobile app categories include shopping (52% of smartphone owners plan to download these types of mobile apps) and health and fitness (36%).

The survey discovered that mobile games are the most popular type of mobile app because they help players help them pass the time (40% of mobile games players agree) and de-​stress (35%). Puzzle (59%) and action (41%) games are among the most popular types of mobile games. Smartphone owners are also inclined to download social media and messaging mobile apps, as well as other apps that help them maintain their social lives.

Mobile Games and other products can be advertised to Smartphone App Purchasers many different ways. According to AudienceSCAN, last year, 62.2% took action after either receiving an advertisement via text message or seeing an ad on their mobile smartphone apps. Within that same amount of time, this group took action after seeing TV commercials (75.5%), email ads (64.6%) and direct mail ads (64.7%). They're also 59% more likely than other adults to click on text link ads on websites.
