Put Motivational Quotes Into Action

Quotes can be great motivators, especially in the competitive, stressful and busy world of sales. Many salespeople adopt quotes or mantras but unfortunately, some don’t quite know how to specifically use those quotes to drive their own actions. In a recent Inc. article, Jeff Haden shares 13 motivational quotes—and goes the extra mile by explaining the quotes in relation to sales and how to put each quote into action.

Below are a select few from his article, along with his advice on applying them:

“Don’t try to be a man of success, try to be a man of value.” — Albert Einstein

This quote, Haden explains, reinforces the fact that people don’t want to work with a stereotypical salesperson who is only focused on making the deal. Instead, they want someone who values them as a customer and cares about their business (i.e., provides value). You can achieve this by not relying solely on closing sales but rather strengthening relationships. Rather than promoting numbers, tell a story. “Show your prospects the story of their lives before, during, and after they become your client and the transformative value that you’re adding,” Haden writes. “Nail down this value story before jumping on your next call and become a ‘man of value’.”

How you choose to act each and every day ultimately decides how you live your life. Are the choices you make today reflective of how you want your life to be? If not, it’s time to focus on habits rather than goals. Incentivize and reward good habits that will get you where you want to be in the long run.

“Change before you have to.” –Jack Welch

You will never have different results if you keep doing the same thing. Plus, change is inevitable, so why wait? Stand out from competitors and score new successes by evolving. To put this quote into action, write down one thing that deep down you know you should change. Then ask yourself, “’Do I really want to wait until I have to do this? Or do I want to be the person I want to be on my own terms?”

These are just three pieces of “actionable inspiration” that Haden details, and likely, you will find the others just as helpful. “Use these quotes and action items as a guide to put you back on the path to success and start seeing real results again,” he writes.
